Now that the civil war has ended, slavery is no longer possible in the United States of America. What a great news for the black people, but what a disaster for the Belle Reve plantation. No slaves means nobody going to the fields. The family had to sell some land because it was too big the use without slaves. But still, they had money, a mansion, and the rest of the plantation. It is yet uncleared if they hired employees or not, we only know that the Belle Reve family continued her normal life like nothing happened.

Until, for some unknown reason, the member of the family begun to die. And funeral are expensive here in Mississippi, even more the fancy funeral for the wealthy people. They had to sell even more land to survive, and ultimately, all that was left was the mansion, the cemetery, and the daughters of the family.

And yet we don’t know why but Belle Reve doesn’t exist anymore, it has been lost, and nobody knows why, except Blanche, who doesn’t seem to live in Mississippi anymore.
