Game Master Notes

These notes exist to help you run through the Quest. They are put here by the creator and should give you some direction as to what they had in mind when they created the Quest

This is part of the Hungering Steppe campaign, come on over and see what’s going on, and how you can get involved!

- Path to Story -

The forces of Pearlgrave hope to expand their influence into the blood red waters of the Gorelake. Beneath the crimson waves of the Gorelake, great aquatic beasts hunt and kill each other. The Drowned Emperor seeks to add these predators to his army and use the aethersea to send them against his foes. However, the people of the lake don’t enjoy the idea of soul-stealing neighbors and call King Elrog for aid. The Towering King needs to feed his growing army and the creatures of the Gorelake will make a fine meal indeed.

This quest allows you to gain a reward by fighting alongside one of the warlords. Either Veinir the Drowned Emperor of Pearlgrave or King Elrog of the Towering Court. You do not need to have settled in either of the Warlord’s areas in order to fight alongside these warlords. Please indicate which Warlord you are supporting in the comments below.

If you had pledged to a Warlord in the second phase, you are not required to support them in phase three. There are no mechanical consequences for not fulfilling your pledge to a warlord. However, you only have one other chance to support this warlord. If you do not support this warlord at least once during the campaign, you will be labeled as an Oathbreaker narratively

Rewards

Sometimes a Quest creator will tell you what you get for completing the Quest, depending of the outcome of course. If there is nothing, you can obviously create your own rewards, ahhh… imagine the possibilities…

You receive these rewards regardless of which Warlord you support.

  • For completing this quest, word of your legend grows across the Hungering Steppe. You receive 6 Glory and your warlord gains 1d6 Renown.
  • If you participated in a game of Age of Sigmar and used the territory rules for one of the areas of the Steppe, you receive 3 additional Glory.

As the battle for the Hungering Steppe begins, your Warlord earns an Improvement. This Improvement can be the Bonus Ability related to your Warlord of choice noted below or a number of Characteristic Enhancements from the Anvil of Apotheosis whose Destiny Points do not exceed 4.

Towering Court Bonus Ability – Royal Blood

The Court of the Towering King has bonded your blood to that of the soldiers most loyal to you. They willingly endure the pain meant to their Warlord.

At the start of the first battle round, before determining who has the first turn, you can pick 1 friendly unit in your army to be this model’s retinue. Roll a dice before you allocate a wound or mortal wound to this model while it is within 3″ of its retinue. On a 1-2, that wound or mortal wound is allocated to this model as normal. On a 3+, that wound or mortal wound is allocated to the retinue instead of this model.

Restrictions: Cannot be taken by a Hero with a Mount.

Pearlgrave Bonus Ability – Devourer of Magic

One of the secrets taught to you by the Drowned Emperor is the ability to absorb powerful magics to prolong your own life.

Anytime a spell is successfully cast by a Wizard within 12” of this model, you can heal 1 wound allocated to this model after the spell has been resolved.

Vorghya & the Unfractured fighting for the Towering Court.

The people of Gorelake had called upon the Towering Court for aid, and King Elrog has answered. As one of the newest members of the court, Vorghya had offered her people to assist in the efforts to hold back the forces of the Pearlgrave.

She looked first to her own tribe, the Norscellans. They were seafaring by nature, and most had experience in hunting aquatic Beasts. After arriving at the Gorelake, the reavers take to the water in commandeered fishing boats, luring out creatures, and returning their carcasses to the shore for proper harvesting.

Next, Vorghya looked to the Kurgali Horsemen. These she tasked with patrolling the lands surrounding the Gorelake, ensuring Pearlgrave sent no aid by land unnoticed. At first sign, they were to report back to allow a proper defense.

Finally, Vorghya looked to the seers of the Tung. These spiritual people turned their gaze to the stars, searching for any ill omens or hints of prophecy. Even the slightest vision was recorded, though nothing pertaining to the battle for Gorelake was discovered.

With all of her people in place, Vorghya watched dutifully for signs of incursion. She sought to prove herself to King Elrog, for she had requests to make of him in return, and knew well that nothing in Ghur comes without effort.

The Green Order has decided to work alongside Pearlgrave, but from afar. After a number of… incidents, it has become clear that these particular Aelves of the deep are not as ready to accept Grandfather’s blessing after all. Many of them complained considerably as they were given a blessing. This seems to have put the Emperor in a bit of a mood, and so the Order has decided it would be of use best if we attacked from opposing sides when it came to combat, and bless the waters the Aelves don’t use as much. Just at first. This should allow them to more slowly see how wonderful Grandpa is, and get used to the beautiful waters that he can provide.

As such, the Green Order has been at work in the settlements around the lake. Preaching of the unnecessary advent of hope, and how true freedom comes when we embrace the Facts of Life. There has been some good success in the villages, with many turning to our lord, and spreading his blessings out from the town and into the lakes.

Unfortunately, we have met strong resistance out in the field, and, as usual, it was the forces of death that have been most unhelpful. We may have lost a few if the fights out there, our very first real losses, but still, life will eventually overcome all!
