Battle of the Swamp Pass – Bogswallow Marauder versus Packhome

The Great Awakening approaches. Disruptions in the Hungering Steppe cause tensions to flare up between the warlords. They begin to make their moves, seizing strategic resources in a bid to cement their positions of power. The warlords call upon those who have pledged loyalty to them. Blood and battle has come to the Steppe. Only the strong can survive.

Game Master Notes

These notes exist to help you run through the Quest. They are put here by the creator and should give you some direction as to what they had in mind when they created the Quest

This is part of the Hungering Steppe campaign, come on over and see what’s going on, and how you can get involved!

- Path to Story -

The trade routes of the Bogswallow Marauders have been devastated. Their once stable realmgate has collapsed and the surrounding swamp has become a haunted land. To recoup their losses, Bor commands the hobgrots to secure the assistance of a merchant caravan from the Prime Dominion of Hysh. While the hobgrots and the Aurannar merchants have a history together, the Ghurneth of Packhome will not allow hobgrot goods to move through their lands. If Bor and his forces are allowed to enter the Plains, who knows if they can be prevented from conquering it all?

This quest allows you to gain a reward by fighting alongside one of the warlords. Either Bor Goadfist of the Bogswallow Marauders or Huntmaster Sylai of Packhome. You do not need to have settled in either of the Warlord’s areas in order to fight alongside these warlords. Please indicate which Warlord you are supporting in the comments below.

If you had pledged to a Warlord in the second phase, you are not required to support them in phase three. There are no mechanical consequences for not fulfilling your pledge to a warlord. However, you only have one other chance to support this warlord. If you do not support this warlord at least once during the campaign, you will be labeled as an Oathbreaker narratively.

Rewards

Sometimes a Quest creator will tell you what you get for completing the Quest, depending of the outcome of course. If there is nothing, you can obviously create your own rewards, ahhh… imagine the possibilities…

You receive these rewards regardless of which Warlord you support.

  • For completing this quest, word of your legend grows across the Hungering Steppe. You receive 6 Glory and your warlord gains 1d6 Renown.
  • If you participated in a game of Age of Sigmar and used the territory rules for one of the areas of the Steppe, you receive 3 additional Glory.

As the battle for the Hungering Steppe begins, your Warlord earns an Improvement. This Improvement can be the Bonus Ability related to your Warlord of choice noted below or a number of Characteristic Enhancements from the Anvil of Apotheosis whose Destiny Points do not exceed 4.

Bogswallow Bonus Ability – Stench of Kruelty

The terrorshrooms of the Swallowing Bogs emit a reaction of fear in those that inhale its smoke. The hobgrots teach you how to harness this ability to force your enemies to flee before you.

In your hero phase, pick 1 enemy unit within 9” of this model and roll 2d6. If the roll is higher than that enemy unit’s Bravery characteristic, that enemy unit suffers a number of mortal wounds equal to the difference between its Bravery characteristic and the roll.

Packhome Bonus Ability – Aquiline Transformation

Whilst fighting alongside the clans of Packhome, you form a bond with your totemic spirit. With the powers of Ghur you are able to take the winged form of this beast.

Once per battle, at the end of your hero phase, you can say that this model will shapeshift into a Flying Beast. If you do so, set up a new unit of 1 Flying Beast within 1” of this Hero and add it to your army, then remove this Hero from the battlefield. At the start of one of your subsequent hero phases, you can say that this model will shapeshift back into your Warlord. If you do so, set up this Hero on the battlefield within 1” of the Flying Beast and then remove the Flying Beast from the battlefield.

If the Flying Beast is slain, before removing it from the battlefield, set up this Hero on the battlefield within 1” of the Flying Beast, then remove the Flying Beast from the battlefield.

Restrictions: Cannot be taken by a Hero with a Companion or a Mount.

Thanks to Lord-Celestant Rassus Ravenmane and his Wolves of Sigmar, Lord-Aquilor Lucina Chromsdottir gains information about the illicit goods the Bogswallow Marauders intend to transport through the Ghurneth’s territory. In accordance with her oath to Huntmaster Sylai, the Lord-Aquilor arranges a meeting with Warlord Bor Goadfist to sternly warn him of the dangers of his own goods, as well as the folly of angering the Ghurneth.

When words fail, a show of force will have to do in Shifting Sensibilities.

The Kharadron Overlords of Barak-Izrildrakkaz support the Bogswallow Marauders by flying their Aurranar allies over the blockade in exchange for establishing trade relations with both the Aurranar and Bogswallow Marauders.

Played a Warcry game where my warband had to element one element of the enemy force and we succeeded! Here is a link to my overall narrative, with this Quest narrative further down https://thegreatweave.com/barak-izrildrakkaz-led-by-beldric-forgehand-arrival-in-ghur/

The Hidden Reserve has offered to the Bogswallow Marauders to fulfill their amberbone orders through parallel shipping; in exchange for a premium and transport fees, amberbone from the Sons of Bugman AEC mine and warehouse is ferried along well-patrolled sky routes to Bor’s buyers. It’s a sound deal compared to the loss of employees and assets a pitched battle with the Ghurneth would surely inflict!

But such high profits as that would create for the duardin have an expiration date, unless – of course – the animosity between the Bogswallow Marauders and the Ghurneth of Packhome grows fiercer. Sneaky Ghurish haffen, similar in stature to the average hobgrot, have also been employed to poison the watering holes of the beasts the Ghurneth hunt while wearing Bogswallow colours.

The Kharadron Overlords of the Hidden Reserve will honour its contract with the Bogswallow Marauders to the letter while protecting company interests. It’s Just Business, after all.

Razgor answers the Ghurneths call for aid, honouring their agreement. Laying traps and ambushes along the Bogswallows trade routes, they attempt to interrupt the supply lines. In the meantime, the Realmhuntaz shaman is learning the ways of the Ghurneth and gains the ability to turn into a winged beast.

The Coven of Mightfulness aides their ghurneth allies against the vile, hobgrot traders… erm, invaders. They do so by bravely launching an ambush upon their unsuspecting adversaries, as is true Tzeentchian tradition.
