Grand-Inquisitor Salazar had walked away from a section of the Umberspire, barely in control of his faculties. Even before the mage-god Teclis laid Nagash low, the Grand-Inquisitor had been weary of the necromancer god eventually usurping his control over the Inquisition’s forces, so he had taken measures to bind every ghost, corpse and bone construct in the Inquisition to the foundations of Umberspire itself. Within the Tomb of Memories.
Now, all those undead within the tomb screamed out “warnings” to those that came near. It seemed the dead were scared.
Some “calamity” was drawing near, some entity had embedded itself into the bound undead here, haunting what was left of their minds. This had been causing the tower itself to shiver, ever so slightly, as the undead attempted to escape the nightmares that afflicted them. Now, even drawing near to the writhing hosts caused one’s mind to reel, it had never been safe here, but had become significantly worse.
Salazar had thus brought together the best of his Inquisition in an attempt to work out what was going on, but to no avail. It was difficult at the best of times to get any information from the creatures from within the Tomb, but now if one made any attempts to get any insight into the haunting, the creature in question would crumble into a wailing mess, inconsolable and useless. It was insanity, literally.
As far as Salazar could tell, the extent of their knowledge could be written on a single sheet of paper, and none of it seemed particularly encouraging…
The undead spoke of “The Third Eye”, that would “devour all that stood against it”, a significant amount of references to “the abyssal dark”, and frequent references to nightmares that will never cease.
It was the day following Salazar’s most recent visit to the Spire’s foundations when he abruptly made it clear to his Inquisition that they would no longer be pursuing clarity on this particular issue, citing other conflicts that were more important to their goals.
