Tana Twicesworn captains a small, elite group of soldiers known as “The Emissaries of Forgelight” on diplomatic missions beyond the walls of their city. She’s a dispassionate woman, well-known for her brutally honest assessments, and an exceptionally cunning fighter. While many question why someone with such a lack of ambition was tasked with leading The Emissaries, her knowledge of how to navigate the dangers of The Realm of Ulgu more than account for her dull personality.

Tana was not born a citizen of Forgelight, but instead belonged to The Free City of Illusadel, nestled near the fog-covered bayous of The Claret Vale. She grew up hearing the legends of heroic Stormcast fighting epic battles against the forces of Chaos and Destruction, alongside their brave Freeguild allies, and strove to join their ranks as quickly as she could. This young Tana was passionate and ambitious, but never at the expense of her duties to the peoples of Illusadel. It was this strength of character that allowed her to quickly ascend to the rank of captain. Illusadel’s true  shadowy nature only revealed itself to Tana once she’d reached this position, as nobles within the city routinely attempted to bribe her to overlook countless crime borne of greed. When Tana continued to refuse to be bought, she found herself transferred to captaining an outpost within The Claret Vale—which had just come alive with rumors of the Blood God’s worshippers lurking in the mist.

Such rumors proved to be devastatingly real when a Khornate force appeared from the dark, moving with the swift and deadly precision of those raised in Hysh. Tana managed to confront the leader of the warband, a blood-stained Warqueen with silver hair, and, though exhausted and outmatched, Tana impressed the Warqueen with her unbridled rage at losing all she’d worked for. The Freeguild were defeated, with Tana and a few select others being “chosen” to survive as part of the Khornate warband.

For nearly a year, Tana served the so-called Queen-Apparent of The Arterial Steppe, who hailed from Hysh. She and her warband traveled all throughout Ulgu, raiding and pillaging and capturing more unfortunate souls to add to some cursed quota. During this time, Tana’s strong spirit fractured. Gone was her dreams of heroism, along with those who’d supported and died under her command. What remained was her sense of duty, now invested in serving the Queen-Apparent’s every whim. Tana allowed herself to suffer every indignity the cruel queen forced upon her, if only to keep her life. However, the Queen-Apparent and her warband would eventually have to return to Hysh. When the time came, the Queen-Apparent appeared to have some change of heart. Instead of bringing her loyal servant, Tana, back to The Arterial Steppe with her, the Queen-Apparent set Tana free in Ulgu. A kind gesture to most, but to Tana, it proved to be the greatest cruelty of all.

Tana wandered for a time, alone in Ulgu. Stripped of her passion, ambition, and now an authority to serve, Tana felt herself to be little more than a shade, an empty and hollow woman, doomed to wander the landscapes of the Realms until they too went to dust. But as she continued to drag herself forward, a light appeared. This light was soon to be revealed as The City of Anvils, Forgelight. When Tana arrived, her emaciated form caught the eye of a member of the Court of Illumination, who quickly took her under their care and raised Tana back to health. Though physically well for the first time in what had felt like an eternity, Tana’s mind still struggled to trust and to believe in the many wonderful things she was told about the city and its enlightened ruled, The Illuminate. Instead, she found herself merely repeating the words and stories with none of the conviction. Despite this, The Court of Illumination found Tana to be a capable vessel for their city’s promotion, and gave her the captaincy of The Emissaries of Forgelight. Tana, once sworn to the service of Khorne, now swore herself to serve Forgelight. Since, she has led the Emissaries on many diplomatic missions throughout Ulgu and beyond at the behest of The Illuminate, seeking to spread his word and dominance to even the stars above.
