Ulfenkarn

– The Cursed City –

The city was founded in the Age of Myth as Mournhold when the Ebon Citadel was constructed on the windswept island of Szargorond by Houses Altern, Vossheim, and Gaunt, three noble families from the Realm of Azyr.

For many generations both the living and the spirits of the dead lived peacefully together breeding a tough people whose strength would be sorely tested during the apocalyptic Age of Chaos.

When the Dark Gods invaded the Mortal Realms, pouring their legions into reality, Ulfenkarn, like so many other cities, found itself isolated and besieged. Eventually, it was laid to waste by Slaughn the Ravenor, a Daemon Prince of Khorne. In the aftermath, the survivors agreed to a pact with a potential saviour, one that the city and its people would regret forever.

Radukar the Wolf and his fleet saved the city but after claiming the Ebon Throne he began to surround himself with his coterie of fiends and lackeys, the Thirsting Court. However, relative peace still reigned well into the Age of Sigmar until the Necroquake swept across the realms and, Radukar was infused with great power, losing all remaining restraint. He and his courtiers went on a bloody rampage against any who might defy them, turning a fortunate few into vampires but most were merely slain and their corpses left all across the city.

Since that day the living have laboured endlessly for their cruel masters.

Rules

This is particularly important to those playing Warhammer Quest: Cursed City and Soulbound. Please be aware that the rules for engaging the city depend on whether or not a hero or character currently resides within its walls. While outside the city, 'canon' lore surrounding Ulfenkarn will be kept in-line with the current Age of Sigmar storyline. But, while you're within the city, the storyline can change, depending on your play-through. Be aware though, once you leave the Cursed City, you may find what you thought you did, may not have really occurred. Those memories stay with you, but as memories only, set to plague the Heroes sanity henceforth!

Additional Lore for playing within The Great Weave

In the world of the Great Weave, the city of Ulfenkarn is trapped in a magical anomaly caused by its proximity to the Shyish Nadir.

This anomaly provokes time, as well as cause and effect, to twist and pull around Ulfenkarn. Heroes that enter the city play out their twisted lives, battling to save the city from Radukar, only to exit and find things have changed. Sometimes their memories of an event change slightly, while other times their companions die, or appear back from the dead, when leaving that elusive boundary.
