Known as Weeping Tor, the Order of the Tolling Bell maintains a holdfast within the Banelands in the south of the Penultima underworld, Shyish. The Banelands have long been under the sway of Archaon, and it is to him, the Order ultimately owes its allegiance, having been seen marching alongside his armies for centuries.
The fiefdom includes vassal tribes of barbarians, who provide both battlefield numbers to the Order’s Blightkings and also serve as recruiting grounds for the most worthy. Alongside these humans, it is believed that a tribe of Beastmen inhabit the nearby Hangman’s Wood and also join the order though only, it is said, when the ruling Shaman judges the omens to be good. Warbands of Nurglite Warriors of Chaos are often stationed at Weeping Tor, whether by invite, driven by oaths of loyalty or even familial ties is unknown.
Weeping Tor stands at the heart of Griefmere, a bog known and feared for its shifting lights and unnavigable ways. Only by marching along the Causeway of Sighs can any visitor, or enemy, hope to reach the gates of the holdfast. The bog is thought to be a feeding ground for Plaguetoads, Bloat Flies and Beasts of Nurgle. Weeping Tor is itself a small fortification – more a military encampment than the seat of a great lord.
