Something new has arrived in the Mortal Realms by a special edict from Sigmar himself, spread throughout the free cities of these great Realms, it’s name: Blood Bowl!
Our inside sources tell us that this new sport is the brain-child of none other then Sigmar himself, refined, and implemented by the very highest leaders of Azyr. Although the official statement released by Azyr states that the purpose of Blood Bowl is to “foster deeper alliances between those that seek to see the Mortal Realms become home to all that seek freedom, order, and happiness” the word on the street points to a number of other reasons. One of our sources close to the action makes it clear: “Sigmar hopes to send a message to all those in his cities, ‘I am the god to worship, I am the best, I am the strongest.’ It is said that Sigmar hopes that Blood Bowl will entice all those within his cities that have become complacent in their worship, who are turning to those chaotic forces that seem to be cropping up more and more in his strongholds.’
One key detail seems to confirm this as well, namely, the complete and utter safety for all players that seek to play in his free cities. The current rules of the game state that teams that worship other gods are to be allowed death-free passage within the relevant city boundaries. Of course, there are caveats, namely that they are to be kept under watch while within the city, that no more than 50 individuals (either within the team, or in the coaching or support teams) may enter the city, and that they forfeit their right to safety (while off the field at least) if they do harm to anyone within the city outside the confines of the Blood Bowl stadium. It is the opinion of this writer that this is a not-so-subtle message fro Azyr, namely, that they believe they’ll not only beat the forces of Chaos on the battlefield, but also in the hearts and minds of the people.
All of this has the ruling class of many cities throughout the realms setting up Blood Bowl committees to design and create stadiums and teams to represent their city. In fact, we’re already seeing leagues being set up in Azyr, Aqshy, and Ghur, with intercity dialogue supposedly already happening in the rest of the realms.
More news is coming, so be sure to come back later for more updates on the next best thing in the Mortal Realms!
