The Mirror Mountain is an anomaly amongst the extinct volcanoes of the mountain range behind Lake Ogwin. The mountain is the only one in the range that is snow-capped (possible due to its size), and by reflecting the sky, has led to it being referred to by locals as the Mirror Mountain. Over the years the name spread and now the mountain is referred to by this name.
Dinorwig derives its name from the old Eltherin words for town (Din) and lake (Wig pronounced Rig by peoples dwelling near the Mirror Mountain) and means the town on the lake. Originally founded as a mining town, extracting gold from deep beneath the Mirror Mountain, its fame and fortune increased when Duardin from The Flamespires and began working the gold into wondrous jewellery. In order to protect their newfound wealth, the High Council of Dinorwig commissioned the Duardin to construct high thick walls around the town to keep marauding Orrucks and bandits away from the town.
The Age of Chaos was a difficult time for Dinorwig. Its high walls and large standing army managed to fend off the worst deprivations of the roaming chaos hoards, but the danger from these armies meant that they were unable to continue mining and a long siege reduced their food supplies to virtually nothing and almost saw the city wiped out by famine. The lake, fed from small streams and rivers cascading down from the Mirror Mountain provided fish and waterfowl, allowing the residents to survive.
The opening of the Realmgates and the coming of the Age of Sigmar meant that the pressure from the Chaos hoards was lifted, the mines were reopened and the city began to thrive again. Before long, the gold ran out and the city had to find another form of commerce to fill the city’s coffers and keep it from failing. Many of the Duardin had left the city when the gold ran out, only a few remained to maintain and operate the artillery held in the city by the Ironweld garrison, and their leader suggested trading the local fiery brew, Flame-Ale and the more obscure Spiced Rum. An emissary was sent to Karak Kuzitsak, the new lodge established by the duardin that had left Dinorwig and trade was quickly established. News of the brew spread and it became popular in this region of Aqshy, allowing Dinorwig to thrive again.
The coming of the Necroquake revealed a Stormvault on the outskirts of the city. Sigmar’s reasons for building a Stormvault here are unknown but the most likely theory is that the wealthy city with its large standing army would be sufficient to keep any inquisitive thieves away from the area. Rumours of a Stormvault in the region had circulated before the Age of Chaos, and with the Stormvault being revealed by the failure of the Penumbral Engines, rumours have begun to circulate that an artefact of great power is held in the Stormvault.
The fall of Fort Ignis and the incursion by the Chaos warlord Chartrek Beastamer destabilising the region has drawn Sigmar’s attention and he appears to be desperate to recover the artefact.
