Temperament

Khaelshara lacks the fiery rage that characterises most priestesses of Khaine. Instead she is reserved, calculating, and ruthless. In her time at the helm of the Benediction’s Elegy, she has established a sprawling network of contacts and deals in the underworlds of the realms, built upon smuggling, blackmail, and violence.

Some see her as an opportunist, using her bloody skills to further her own wealth and power, but in truth Khaelshara is highly idealistic. Her criminal activities merely a conduit for her holy work in Khaine’s name.

She longs to see the realms transformed, and the old order overthrown, for it has brought nothing but suffering and misery. And there is no greater power of change in the realms than Morathi Khaine, the woman who seized her own ascension to godhood. Khaelshara is fiercely loyal to the ideal Morathi embodies, and following her example, will see the realm transformed through blood and shadow.

History

In a previous life, under another name, Khaelshara was a young noble of a flourishing aelven kingdom, enjoying a life of splendour and comfort. That woman died in the ashes of the kingdom with the coming of the age of chaos.

Broken and bloodied, she ran, until she found sanctuary in the shadowy realm of Ulgu, and the Khainite temples. There, amidst the devotees of the Bloody-Handed God, she found a new way. The realms were fundamentally broken, vicious, violent and cruel, and only through blood could they be tamed.

Her taciturn demeanour and penchant for manipulation saw her welcomed by the temple of Khailebron where she deepened her mastery of the shadows. She did not stay long though, setting out across the sea to operate amidst the ports and coastal towns of the realm.

Many were surprised when she was chosen by Morathi to become one of her priestesses, but she has proven her matriarch’s wisdom many times over. Taking charge of the Benediction’s Elegy, she has spread the cult of Khaine’s influence across the water ways of Ulgu and beyond.

While her work lacks the spectacle of the grand gladiatorial displays put on by her sisters, Khaelshara has nonetheless given rise to a number of small cults embedded within key ports and trading posts. Her methods have also allowed her to deal with those that would normally shun or be shunned by the cult, ranging from brutish Orruks to conniving Skaven, all manipulated for her own ends. Only the followers of the great enemy, Slaanesh, she refused to treat with.

Duel at the End of Ash and Sigils

He tasted blood, and he spit it out. Beside him, Xshaeta’s head was hanging limp. Isthubar turned his neck towards the Blightking, hissing at him. With extreme effort, he staggered to his feet. An ugly, blubbering belly laugh greeted him as he once more faced the...

Path of Sigils

“Who did this?”The Skaven struggled in pain, his extremities broken and limp. It was no challenge to make him talk; it was obvious the coward had seen too much already. The Templars had followed the fleeing plague monks to this clearing, where the skaven had tried to...

Stonefall, Three Days Out

Three days. That was how long Rittichik had been cowering in the hole he'd dug into the dirt under a pile of fallen tree trunks, waiting for the dust to settle enough to be able to get his bearings. Stale fear-musk filled his nostrils, the earth around him soaked with...
