Born to poor parents in a Dispossessed stronghold in Chamon, Halbar always felt an affinity with the Dawi despite their differences with humans. He displayed a prodigious talent with magic which caught the eyes of representatives of the Collegiate Arcane. Seeing an opportunity for an advancement that would help support his parents, Halbar left the stronghold and became a novitiate wizard. He rose through the ranks and eventually moved his family to the city of Hallowheart in Aqshy, where he became a member of the Whitefire Court. A few years after this, he was called to defend the city from the forces of Tzeentch, during which is actions saved a contingent of Longbeards and their thane from a horde of flamers. In gratitude, the thane granted him an honorguard of Longbeards that are sworn to protect him as Halbar protected them. During the events of the Burning Winter campaign, Kip Halbar joined the assembled Hallowheart contribution to the Expedition forces around Lake Bykaal. He survived Skaven plots, the bombing of a ship, and aided in the ritual which saw the defeat of the Storm King Shaggoth. He garnered many accolades and was awarded a senior position on the Whitefire Court. But now, Halbar is called once more to join the Arcanum Venatores as their former field commander, the arch-wizard Vallash Kall, fled Hallowheart with the forbidden Book of Nyura in his clutches. Their orders are to find him and take the book back no matter the cost.
Kip Halbar values honesty and hard work, which causes friction between himself and the duplicitous Ancamarth. He fiercely prosecutes war, but is willing to grant clemency to the defeated. He has sworn to never remove his mask, the reason for which is unknown except to maybe his parents. When not on campaign, he can often be found in his study pouring over ancient Agloraxi manuscripts or composing poetry of his own.
