While the majority of the Kastelai bloodlines wage war on top of their mounts.  There is one Blood Knight vampire within the Valencourt bloodline that commands the battlefield on foot.  Clad in ancient armour Xavier strides the battlefield commanding his blood knights as if he was still on his own nightmare steed.

Many centuries ago Xavier was demounted from his Steed by a titanic blow from a Bloodthirster of Khorne.  Among the Kastelai, being demounted is seen as dishonourable, many taking their own lives than wanting to live with the shame of having the title “The Demounted”

However, Xavier isn’t like most Vampire lords. Unlike his kin, Xavier is extremely magically tuned to death magic, something usually only seen with the Vampires from the Legion of Blood.  Spirits seem to flock to Xavier and surround the very air and ground as he strides along the battlefield.  Ghosts, skeletons and zombies rise from the ground as he walks, wraiths surround him in a vortex and propel him through the air, much faster than his old nightmare steed ever did.  Likewise, these spirits rip and tear at anyone foolish enough to fight hand to hand with Xavier.  Not that the former blood knight is a slouch in combat, welding an ancient vampiric blade that seems to feast on those it slays, and protected by what appears to be a chaos shield, that’s now brimming with death magic.  The shield seems to protect Xavier from even mortal wounds that would kill him otherwise.

It’s his extreme wielding of death magic and his ability to summon seemingly an entire army in seconds that Lady Katrina requests his service.  Only the cunning of the Vampires know if these armies will be used to defend Castle Valencourt…. Or worse….

Stonefall, Three Days Out

Three days. That was how long Rittichik had been cowering in the hole he'd dug into the dirt under a pile of fallen tree trunks, waiting for the dust to settle enough to be able to get his bearings. Stale fear-musk filled his nostrils, the earth around him soaked with...
