Temperament
Complex rituals performed by the most faithful are needed to commune with the Sunken Saint in his domain deep beneath the waves. He speaks through cryptic words and half glimpsed visions, the truth shrouded and unclear.
Despite his position as patron of the city, he is not a being that has inspired devotion or adoration. Instead he was given respect, as a guardian of the dark and all it contained. Grieving widows and superstitious fishermen would say a word to the saint as a prayer for safe passage. Now the survivors of the city, living and dead, look to him once more for fair passage through uncertain times.
Some believe he was once a man, lost at sea, that became one with the depths that consumed him. Others that he is a god of the dark, or even an aspect of the great necromancer himself.
Whatever the truth, he has acted as a shadowy guardian for Tira Gnok, though whether his efforts have saved, or cursed the city, is a matter of perspective.
History
The Sunken Saint was a dark legend of the city, a slumbering powerful entity worshipped in the days of Old Tira Gnok. The coming of Sigmar saw the God-King’s faith dominate the city, but the Martyr’s followers were never truly snuffed out.
Worshipers turned to the Drowned Cults, underground organisations that sought to embrace the power of the deep places. Despite attempted purges by the Order of Azyr they came to exert significant influence within the city.
As Tira Gnok fell, the cults emerged, their power helping save what little has remained. It was said that even the Martyr himself manifested in defence of the city.
In the wake of the city’s fall, the Saint has remained a mystery. However, the catastrophe seemed to have stirred something in the ancient being. The cult leaders have spoken of more frequent communions with him, and on several occasions, he has appeared on the battlefield to aid the beset forces of Tira Gnok, only to disappear in the aftermath
