(9/16) News from Tlacopan! #1: The Sealing of the Great Temple City

Dawn breaks over the eastern mountains as clouds hug the peaks and slowly cascade down into the valley. Jungle birds sing their morning songs and loud Terradon Calls can be heard from their roosts high above Tlacopan as they and their chicks awaken. Creating a heavy fog, the clouds and steam from the rivers and lake swirl in-between the trunks and trees and in the smallest crevasses of the smallest rocks. With the jungle consumed in mist the sun still breaks through as Chotec’s glory demands not to be hindered, a fiery red-orange it greets Itzli-Citlalli happily.

Slowly making his way towards to open balcony of his quarters in the Temple of Quetzl, the Star Seer can see all of the great Temple City below him. To the east and north bustling skinks and Kroxigor begin forming the long food lines as the food artisans hand out the morning meals: a combination of harvested bugs, fruits, vegetables, and rice. All around the perimeter of the lake he could see the flourishing farms beginning to erupt with life as they drink in the lake water through their roots. To the south, he saw the priests of Tzunki led by Tak’to doing their morning prayers on the great dam that rests on top of the waterfall. Finally turning his gaze to the West he saw the Scar Veterans beginning to lead their patrols out into the surrounding jungles and plains, looking for anything out of place. Out of nowhere a loud call erupts startling the Star Seer but not frightening him,  “Tlanextic! You overgrown long-necked cow!” He gave out a laugh as a large Thunderdon head came into view and then was resting on the stone balcony itself, large piercing yellow eyes and black pupils locked with the skinks.

“You, even for your size, somehow sneak up on me” he slowly and gently rested a hand on her snout and slowly beginning to rub, a large restful sigh lets out and the giants eyes close. Behind the pair footsteps could be heard, Tlanextic’s eyes widened and slowly she lifted her head, Itzli turned to look behind him, a young skink was running towards them. Breathing hard the skink is stopped by 2 hidden Temple Guards.
“Let him pass” Itzli commands in a low voice.
Raising their weapons but letting out a growl of warning the two Temple Guards stepped to the side and allowed the single skink to pass.
“Great Seer of unimaginable Wisdom and Knowledge, word has been sent from Xlakana, the Oldblood Tl’uk leads an army to confront Skaven in the Blade-Tooth mountains. It is believed they are responsible for the missing skinks, saurus, humans and others.”

Minutes passed in complete silence, Itzli’s stare was seemingly lifeless and then it broke and he began to walk down the marble hallway but not before turning and nodding to the giant Thunderdon behind him.
Although much older than most other Seraphon around him, Itzli is able to move quicker than many would think, each step a careful calculation. Still not saying a word the two skinks were being followed by the two Temple Guards, coming out of an archway the four enter a large atrium. Marble with gold woven into its very foundation was everywhere, icons of beasts and pictures of ancient battles lined the walls. Finally, the morning sun broke into their view as they reached a large outside garden, Itzli motioned for the guards to stop and brought the skink to the lily pad filled pond.

“The Skaven threat is ever-present, I am however sure of Tul’uk will handle those filthy Xa’kota” rage filled him as his eyes began to crackle with magical energies and his tattoos began to glow a fiery red, “To be prepared, however, send word that all gates into Tlacopan be sealed but twice a day. The gates are only to be opened once mid-morning and once mid-evening, only to traders and our trusted allies. All caravans are to be checked by Temple Guard led by Eternity Warden Xla, any found to be sneaking in are to be killed on sight unless they are found to have information of our enemies and brought directly to me. Send word to the Terradon messengers to spread the word to all of our villages and Temple Cities to increase patrols, and to add more saurus and Skystreak Bows to any walls”

The skink clearly scared of the rage brewing within the Seer nodded but stood his ground, he knew better than to move before being dismissed.

A long pause was then broken by a final command, “tell the beastmasters to prepare Tlanextic’s War-Howdah…have it ready on the fitting rocks by the next full moon in a week and a half’s time. Now go.”
The messenger gave respect to the Star Seer before turning and running to fulfil his duties, and Itzli contemplated what may be on the rise as he walked towards the Lustrum Node and the central island in the lake.
