Rygorn Baeldrag

Standing at 4’5″, Rygorn is a 65 year old Fyreslayer. With stormy dark brown eyes, and that distinctive copper hair, he charges into battle with his massive greataxe. When not screaming at the top of his lungs in battle, Rygorn actually speaks with a rough whisper and is as loyal as anyone you’ll ever meet.

Rygorn Baeldrag was born third to Runefather Grumgen-Grmnir, with his two older brothers Grimgar and Grimgor. The three sons learned the many tales of their decorated father, and all sought his approval. Much younger and smaller, Rygorn withstood the torments of his older brothers. This led to him turning to his mother’s aid where she would scold the two brothers, but to no avail have their father praise their boyishness. Rygorn believed that his two brothers were his father’s favourites, supported by exclusive ur-gold hunts and tactical courses he taught them with the greataxe, their namesake weapon.

During these adventures, Rygorn was left at home to look after the family forge where he learned to smith simple tools and plateware. His mother was proud of his numerous creations but began to admire the craftsmanship he put on each of his creations. With her husband’s permission, they sent him off to learn under the master forgers of Ghyran. Young and adolescent, Rygorn went off to learn the craft of forging weapons and runes. He quickly mastered the techniques he was taught. He spent several years forging weapons when he discovered his ability of simply touching steel and disintegrating it into molten. He believed he had the spirit of Grimnir within him at the forge. At the age of 27, he went back to his home in the Wandering Mountains becoming the master smith where he forged weapons for his kin. He felt his purpose was this path. Grumgen was pleased with his craftsmanship and would bring him the rarest of metals from battle, to forge the family greataxe for his family.  Everything was in order for a few decades, until the Skaven attacked.

They came in droves digging into the mountain where they would assault in insurmountable packs. The Fyrelsayers held them off but started to lose unreplenishable numbers to the ratmen. Grugem ordered every Duradin able to lift an axe to fight off the skaven’s charge. Eager to help his brothers, Rygorn picked up his axe and joined the front lines when his father ordered him to man the forges instead, where he and the other smiths would fight the battle. The forges raged and the heat could be felt outside the mountains. The forces of the ratmen began to weaken as every soul within the mountain contributed to the war. The ratmen’s invasion was opposed by the stalwart defence Grumgen had established. That was until Grey Seer Kritket Doomeye discovered what the decorated Runesons, Grimgar and Grimgor. The Grey Seer devised a last resort plan to capture the two sons. It was a bloodbath, rats poured in through the holes they dug with their warp grinders and countless souls were lost. Grimgar and Grimgor, hungry for battle, threw themselves into battle, slaying nearly every rat they could arc their axes at. However, they were overwhelmed by four rat ogres each and realised their only way out was through death.

They fought fiercely but were captured, where they were taken out of the mountains and the battle had ceased. Grumgen was perplexed at why the attack would abruptly stop. It didn’t take him long to realize his two eldest sons were missing. He scoured the bodies, consisting of ratmen and duardin alike, bodies mangled only to find the axes his third son had crafted for his brothers. He sent word out across the land for information regarding the whereabouts of his beloved. When he heard the dreaded truth that his sons were stitched into the flesh of what is known as Ummglug, an abomination. Grumgen descended into his quarters where he would brood for the years.

Rygorn, last of his father, had a new quest, one that raged within his very soul. He would scour the Mortal realms seeking out that caused his family and kin much pain. Believed to be Grimnir’s chosen, forged a new axe with the steel from his lost brothers’ axes and the family crest gifted to him by his mother, Rygorn sought to bring the very furnace of Grimnir’s spirit to Greyseer Kritket Doomeye and Ummglug.
