The Greater Demon Razitek Spireclaw entered Ghur early during the Age of Chaos. He casted a small arcane spell. It was barely visible from even a few feet away early on. However it was made from strange magic that it grew and grew. Centuries later this spell has expanded to create a strange branching structure, from the limbs of this spell there are areas of settlement.
Razitek Spireclaw would often contort the nature of the spell to fit his fickle desires, changing and twisting the limbs. The Heart of the spell was inhospitable to most mortals and was inhabited mostly by Demons, mortals often resided in the suburbs of the City. These populations relied on the Spell for safety from raiders, but to maintain an illusion of safety the Greater Demon would force the Spell to provide food and resources to the mortals.
After the Greater Demon’s defeat, it was left to a group of Magisters who worked feverishly to
maintain the Spell. Their absence at the front line was noted when the Desraki invaded. Currently the mortals work to make mundane fortifications around the City, while those with affinity with spellcasting are brought into the City in droves to help maintain the Spell. The Priests of Tchar-Manann have been useful in maintaining this spell, and the Chamonite Apostates useful in engineering new walls and fortifications. The amount of resources dedicated to maintaining the city has led to disputes by some who believe it would be best spent on the frontlines
