The Battle of Drakheim

May 31, 2022

At last, the tempest broke upon Drakheim, as The Cult of The Fell Dragon amassed its armies to assault the city directly, seeking retribution for the disruption of their nefarious plans for the stolen amberstone. Beleaguered by the chases in prior conflicts, the forces of Drakheim braced themselves for what was to be a devastating assault.

The Hungering Warherd, now successfully under the command of The Cult of The Fell Dragon, was directed towards a line of allied Stormcast of The Reforged Blade. Though their shots withered and wounded the Beasts, the primordial hunger of the warherd drove more and more creatures towards the battle, overwhelming the Stormcast within the hour. The Cult breached the walls of the city, with a number of citizens becoming prey to the slavering beastmen.

Though the cultists had breached a section of the walls, the Ashen Drakes were able to repel a team sent to seize the amberstone stored within the city’s catacombs, felling them as with greater ease than the infiltrators they’d uncovered before.

Elsewhere along the city walls, The Necorsiarchs of The Silver Key sought to take advantage of the chaos to steal the souls of the city’s people at the behest of The Craven King himself. However, King Mat’hain had already laid claim to the city, and strove to defend it, despite the enmity of Drakheim’s Lord-Aquilor. Malnihl the Fallen Thrall and his Hexwraiths overwhelmed the King, leaving him injured and in the care of his dutiful Tidecaster, once his hardened Namarti Reavers and Morsarr Guard had repelled the ghosts.

The Lord-Aquilor knew that The Cult sought their stores of amberstone, and so, in a cunning move, she tasked the Barak-Gol Expeditionary Force with ferrying the realmstone away from the city. However, in a critical miscommunication, the unmarked ships drew the fire of the remaining Stormcast of The Reforged Blade. While one of the frigates was able to escape, the misunderstanding cost the Kharadron and the city dearly.

With the entry of The Cult of The Fell Dragon into Drakheim, small portions of the amberstone were ferried away, but the destruction of the city’s west district had been their greater victory. As they returned to the Mausoleum of the Gods, they felt assured that The Fell Dragon would be risen with the realmstone they’d recovered. However, as they entered the chamber where they’d stored the amberstone, they discovered it all to be missing, with only the waterlogged earth remaining.

Propheter Anankos, spiritual leader of The Cult of The Fell Dragon, did not know the same panic as their followers given this development. The Dragon God of Secrets, Silence, and Song had gifted him a vision of growing darkness and a creature with a borrowed face claiming they’d change the course of fate itself.

In this, the Propheter knew they had not been lied to.

Quickly, the Propheter gathered their warleaders, and instructed them to spread their forces far throughout Drakengrad, to find the Sentinel Bones and a potential new means for resurrecting The Fell Dragon, and to search for any sign of the interloper who’d made off with their first opportunity to resurrect their patron. Meanwhile, Drakheim tends to its new dead, attempting to rebuild after the destruction, even as they know the danger has all but passed…
