The Battle of the Pantheon part 1

Burning Templar

Before them laid Vensoth Bay.

The trek had not been easy, to reach the bay from further inland – but with the danger the sea itself posed, with wild magic and additionally being bitterly contested, it had been the most prudent tactical move.

As such, and considering the strategic importance of Vensoth Bay, it came as no surprise that there had been multiple armies with the same idea, as his scouts had reported.

Regarding the vast expanse of the bay before him, Vardeshir the Solemn recognized the foul banners of the vile Nurglite Preacher Tybalt of the Pox Triumphant and the notorious Khornate General Værmundr the Obsidian-Blooded. Together, they outnumbered the Templar forces by quite a margin, and apparently, they had already begun to dig themselves in.

As for the Templars’ ally – The Lord of Hubris Leandros di Avi’aor was fashionably late as usual. It almost led the Tzaangor Templar to suspect he was planning to swoop in at the last possible moment and reap the glory – but he had spoken with the man, and his foremost goal was to see the Khornates’ defeat in the war, and he understood strategy.

To his side, rows of heavy Templar cavalry upon scaled reptilian steeds, both riders and mounts clad in golden armour, stood ready for a charge, as the rest of his forces ascended the hill in disciplined formations.

Down below, from out the disordered Nurglite camp, units of Blightkings slowly lumbered into position, forming a ragged shieldwall together with Khornate Bloodreavers, little swarms of Nurglings dancing between their legs. Vardeshir could see the Obsidian-Blooded himself, mounted atop his Juggernaut, screaming orders at his troops, as units of Skullreapers and Blood Warriors began to form. He also spotted two Slaughterpriests whipping the Khornates into a frenzy.

This was going to be a hard battle, and he prayed to Our Burning Saviour that Fate would be with them. However…

The Paladin of Fate’s gaze wandered towards a spot at the cliffsite, with a ruined circle of black pillars visible even from this distance. Another battle would be waged at a different spot in the bay, and perhaps this would prove to be the truly decisive one.
