As the Inquisition’s forces mobilize across the island to steal information and relics from the hands of the other explorer armies, a sudden raid catches their spectral forces by surprise.
One of the followers of Grolghur Festerhorn’s Excremental Herd led his warband of arcane beasts and cultists straight to one of the Inquisition’s mustering points, staged close to one of the places Lawgiver Amondenora intended them to investigate. This means they were discovered.
It was a fraught battle, with the Inquisition being manipulated out of position and cut off at every point. One could even say that the machinations of Tzeentch had made the whole situation come to pass, including the movements of the Inquisition’s troops and every misstep taken.
Eventually the arcanite beasts were driven back, but a sense of unease was felt among the surviving specters. A sense of certainty lost. A sense of… betrayal. And the Men in Black are quick to sniff out deviations to their orders.
In the following days, the Tormentor captain of the Men in Black squadron was held at swordpoint by his troops, and brought to Lawgiver Amondenora who appeared on site herself. Turns out the captain had accepted a powerful magical artefact from one of the Herd’s arcanists a week prior, given in exchange to what the magician said was “a binding of Fate”. The captain explained that he took a calculated risk, and after examining the artefact for any magical corruption and finding none, he took the gamble. That the captain considered in accepting such a bargain from a Tzeenchian follower was enough for the Lawgiver to immediately confine his soul to a gemstone before he finished his explanation. She demoted him permanently of his position. And existence.
“Move your troops in now. Consider yourself promoted to captain.” the Lawgiver said to the Man in Black who attended the Tormentor. “Now that these raiders have used their pawn, they can no longer influence our movements and predict our actions. We will wrest this location from them immediately.”
