The Siege of the Voidfang

The only hope of stopping the Fae's reign of terror in Rondhol lies in the defeat of their monstrous creation, the Voidfang. It’s time to gather a powerful force and embark on a dangerous journey into the heart of enemy territory, facing countless obstacles and dangers along the way.

Game Master Notes

These notes exist to help you run through the Quest. They are put here by the creator and should give you some direction as to what they had in mind when they created the Quest

This Quest is part of the Revenge of Rondhol event. When considering this Quest, you’re asking yourself about whether or not you’re up for taking on such an immensely powerful foe. The more teamwork here the better, so be sure to consider what your allies, and even your enemies, are doing. For you Age of Sigmar players, did you know that the Core Book has Siege Warfare rules on page 350? This is a great time to try that out!

- The Weaver -

To defeat the Voidfang, the the denizens of Rondhol must embark on a dangerous journey through the Furyoth Dell. Those that have already made headway into the Dell will find this a lot easier, but many will be entering for the first time – making death all the more likely. Even when these Warbands, adventurers, and heroes finally make their way to the Voidfang they’ll face fierce resistance from the Fae and the Knights of the Chalice, fierce warriors in of themselves that possess terrifying beasts. Finally, they must confront the Voidfang itself, a mighty behemoth with the power to destroy entire cities with a single blow – only by working together is there any hope for victory.

Warcry Instructions

In order to properly assault the Voidfang, you’re going to need some help, and if you’ve acquired any Amber Blood, now is the time to use it. Play through the Universal Quest “Hunt the Beast” on page 117 of the Warcry Core Book. If your warband has in their possession any Amber Blood to not use the “Wild Temperament” rules in the “Break it’s Spirit” Quest Battleplan.

Path to Glory Instructions

Hunt the Endless Spell

To mount an effective attack on the Voidfang, you will require assistance. Realizing the danger posed by the Fae who may employ the colossal creature, you have prioritized the use of arcane abilities. As a result, you are currently searching for an Endless Spell that will aid you in your assault on the fortress.

A malign sorcerous entity stalks the barrens. If you can secure sites of arcane power, you should be able to bring it under your control.

Pick 1 endless spell and write it down in the Quest Reward section of your quest log.

If both you and your opponent are using a Path to Glory army and the battleplan you are using requires you to roll on the Mysterious Terrain table, then after you roll on the table, you can spend 1 glory point to change the result to ‘Arcane’.

At the end of a Path to Glory battle, if a friendly WIZARD is within 1″ of a terrain feature with the Arcane scenery rule, you complete this quest. When you complete this quest, you can add the endless spell you picked to your vault.

Rewards

Sometimes a Quest creator will tell you what you get for completing the Quest, depending of the outcome of course. If there is nothing, you can obviously create your own rewards, ahhh… imagine the possibilities…

Collaboration with others is essential for the success of the Quest. But if you are successful, you may well be able to take down the Voidfang before it causes any more destruction.

Have you played through this Quest or Rumour?

If you’ve played through or resolved this in any way, be sure to tell us right here on the Quest page, we’d love to know what happened!

Faced with the titanic Voidfang, the Templars of Our Burning Saviour begin to devise many plans and strategies to bring the beast down.
The speed, capability of flight and daemonic ferocity of the blessed discs of Tzeentch will certainly prove to be an asset in the deadly trials awaiting the Procession.

On their journey towards the final confrontation, Templar scouts were attacked by an insidious posse of undead allies of the Fae.
Even though their vampire leader was a sophisticated gentleman with sophisticated tactics, in the end, his lordship and his mindless undead servants were overpowered by the might of the Templars and the survivors fled back into the depths of the jungle.

When Gaston and his Ghouls at Arms traveled through the dell, they would stalk like the beasts of Ghur through the bloodthirsty forests. However, when the Voidfang was in sight, Gaston gave the order to return to a proper formation.
“Keep that flag high! It is the only proof to our allies that we haven’t gone mad!”

In preparation for the assault of the dreaded Voidfang, the diverse warbands of the Procession capture and tame the wild flying creatures inhabiting the Dell. In this dangerous undertaking, they are supported by experienced Templars on holy discs of Tzeentch, who, with their high speed and maneuverability, drive or lure the beasts into traps or capture them with heavy nets.

Urgoth and the scouts of his growing Waaagghh! encountered many beasts as they followed the Procession’s path into the Dell. Most they would ignore and go around if possible, or let the main force roll through them if they got in the Waaagh’s way. But the Shaman Dethmuttera showed interest in one particular creature after it ate several scouts. Deep in the Dell, resting on a pile of its prey’s bones, was a particularly large and scarred Maw Krusha.

When Dethmuttera asked Urgoth Skullsmasha if he should get some amber blood to help tame the beast, the Megaboss just smiled and said “I got this”.

The Templars of Umberspire Inquisition break into the Procession convoy

The large procession could be seen across the valley, the tall monolith of Chaos destruction stretching high above the trees, radiating waves of transmutative corruption. And the mass of armies gathering around it, to confront the advancing Voidfang, shook the jungle tree wherever they passed, the press of troops and monstrous beasts across the undergrowth giving them away.
It was easy for the Inquisition to track them. As the gathered forces of the procession start to maneuver to engage the titanic creature, this was the perfect time to break through their back lines. The Inquisition’s original mission, to retrieve the fragments of the Seraphon wreck, would still succeed if they just pried them from the hands of those who have collected the most of it.

They had found an opening. For the past months, the strike team of Inquisitor Sinestor had been harrying their supply lines, locating the traces of the large cache of seraphon artefacts they had amassed. The ones they had stolen from the Inquisition.
The army they were after was close. They were deeper into the procession, with some of their allies in between. They were close to launching the attack on the Fae’s fortress, so they would be distracted. An army of grots stood between the Inquisition and their prey.
Inquisitor Hastagar ordered to advance, to punch through to their real targets…

…but the belligerent warriors this procession had gathered, survivors of the months of whatever the Dell had to throw at them, were not easy to beat. Their fungoid monsters jumped all over the Inquisition’s forces, evading Hastagar’s pincer movements, and throwing the advance into disarray. Judge Voranul managed to cut down one of the grot’s beasts, punching through the grot’s line.
To draw away the avalanche of squig beasts which had emerged onto the battlefield, Hastagar, who had already crossed beyond the grots’ line, ordered his skeletal regiments to engage the fungal beasties, and distract them long enough for the Templars to reach their true target.

The Umberspire Inquisition steals back Seraphon cache of artefacts

The Inquisition now was fully on the run, speeding with their massed forces to encircle their enemy. The assault on the Voidfang had started, and the enemy they were seeking, one of the armies in the procession attempting to besiege the beast, was now in their sights. They were almost ready to move from their camp, to help reinforce the attack on the Fae’s fortress, but were now forced to go on full alert facing this new enemy. The Inquisition, back with a vengeance.

This was a score the Templars of the Inquisition wished to settle to settle: with those who stole the valuable guts from seraphon wreck stuck inside the Shattered Temple. From the temple of the deep. Those who kidnapped their Judge Voranul himself for two whole days. Who defeated their hunter-knight, Belimir, in close combat, and humiliated the Inquisition, stealing the majority of their salvaged searphon artefacts. Chaos Lord Mordred and his allies.

His sorcerer swooped high on his chaos manticore, surveying this sudden enemy that had appeared from the netherworlds to encircle them. He had not expecting to see the Inquisition again. Mordred had ordered the set up of the seraphon engines up, for study and to keep them safely away from the frontline… but that had made them exposed now to this recurrent enemy.

The forces of chaos barbarians and eldritch-clad armored Chosen closed ranks, preparing to withstand the charge of The Men in Black of the Inquisition.
The mounted chaos knights plowed into the Inquisition, dissipating the ghostly reapers and pushing the relentless line of gheists backward.

But Hastagar had prepared to face Mordred. Throwing several regiments of skeletal warriors at him, he avoided having any of the Inquisition’s officers dueling him, choosing instead to keep him busy and unable to interfere with his more valuable troops.
The rest of the procession was not idle, as despite the sudden advance of the Inquisition into their lines, and the siege on the Voidfang was fully underway, Mordred’s tzeentchian allies noticed the problem and swooped in to reinforce them.

Leading one of the flanks of the Inquisition’s charge was Inquisitor Sinestor himself, back from his imposed exile, his long investigations in the Furyoth Dell borne fruit in the form of making this attack possible.
The forces of the Inquisition manage to encircle completely Mordred’s large army, and slowly and inexorably cut them down with the scythes of their hexwraiths and reapers.

As a trump card, Hastagar had managed to convince Magdalene von Sinckler, who usually would follow Inquisitor Voidwalker anywhere, to stay and help with this retrieval. She pounced on Mordred’s allies, pulling them out of the sky with her magicks and slicing them down with her own blade.

Ultimately, Mordred’s own officers abandon him, fleeing from the field. Their warriors break and rout, not wanting to fight on two fronts against the Inquisition and then the jaws of the Voidfang.

The Inquisition, at long last, recovers the seraphon artefacts and other relics that had eluded them for months, stolen by these upstarts. Even Keeper Zindimir’s usually stoic demeanor allowed enough of his satisfaction for this vengeance to show through.
The cache of relics was very sizeable, with some engines the size of wyvern. Priority now was to pack it all up and secure it to travel back to Khardihr, to their Vermillio partners.
