Vollature Wood has long been known as a place for debauchery and drunken revelry. Located to the North of Arganite Bay and lies between the River Witten and Fort Ignis. According to local legend the wood once covered the region, from Grunta Bay in the East linking to Dark Wood across the River Witten, but when the Diretribes settled the region they began felling the great wood to build dwellings and fuel their fires
The population of the area grew slowly as the Direbrand tribes expanded. Migrants from other areas moved into the area and, as trade increased the wealth of the area grew, buildings were made from stone and the demand for timber began to reduce, saving the forest from total destruction.
With the Devoted of Sigmar demanding total devotion to the God King and imposing a puritanical social etiquette, people looked to the wood as a place to enjoy themselves away from the prying eyes of the priest and prophets of the God Kings church. Pleasant picnics and occasional lovers trysts soon became something more sinister with tales of debauchery and drunken revelry. A stone head was raised as a focal point for the revels and a new cult was formed in secret for fear of being accused as worshippers of Slannesh.
The Necroquake caused the dead of Witenford to rise up and destroy the village. Ever since the death magic in the area has been at work on the wood, but was too weak to establish a foothold. The arrival of Chaos in the region has led to the wood suffering corruption on all sides from the East caused by the Chaos around Fort Ignis, from the North with the arrival of the Skaven at the Mines of Vollature and now from the South West by the ghosts haunting the ruins of Witenford, whose power seems to have increased with the weakening of the order magic in the area.
