Weave-wide Event:

Vurm-tai

Vurm-tai is a worldwide narrative event set predominantly in Nassollotyl, Ghur, from the 9th to 29th of September 2021. The story is set over three weeks that function as “Acts”. Everything you do will help shape the story, and determine the future of the city of Nassollotyl and the great Worm that now careens in her direction.

The Campaign will be using our Quest system, with Quests made specifically for the campaign to help you decide what your options are. It’s easy to participate in these Quests; simply read through the relevant Quest info, play a game, and then comment on the Quest page to tell us what happened and if you “won” or not. At the end of every Act, we’ll create a short overview of what happened, which will then influence subsequent Quests that will be created.

A unique opportunity is coming to the city of Nassollotyl and the denizens that live atop her two great god-beasts. But, if anyone wants to take advantage of the situation, they’re going to need to act fast.

The great Kragnos has trampled through the Amber Steppes of Ghur, disrupting the creatures that call the area home, including the Great Worms that criss-cross the land. One of these Worms has now veered off her traditional migration path and has crossed the lands that lie between the grasslands and the symbiotic pair of god-beasts.

This change has not gone unseen though, and the those that lie in the path of the worm, as well as those atop Nasson and Neolotl now look to their respective horizons at an oncoming chance at liberty, power, or carnage.

Event Timeline

Easy-peasy steps for participating

1) Read some of the lore, it’s pretty cool! Also read all of the Expected Questions section below as well.

2) Choose an Alliance and join the Discord group based on what kinds of armies you’d like to play with (optional, though admittedly recommended).

3) Choose a Quest (below) that you like the look of.

4) Play a game with the chosen Quest in mind. (You can play as many games as you like with a Quest in mind, but only submit a result once per Quest)

5) Use the comment section on the Quest page to tell us what happened in your game.

6) You can also submit using standard submissions by creating new posts about your endeavours, characters, and other creations. Use this for submitting stories, hobby reports, and anything else you think doesn’t quite fit into a comment section in the Quest. It is good if you tell us what Quest you’re aiming the submission towards though if you’re particular about where you want to put the efforts. If you do submit this way, they will also be posted on this page (completely optional).

And don’t forget you can get creative with all of this! You could have custom rules, a custom-made table, maybe some crazy scenario in mind. You can do anything!

Alliances and working together

Although it is possible to play within the Vurm-tai Campaign without interacting with others, clearly, it’s way better when we get to co-create together. We’re doing this through our Discord server where you’re able to join a specific Grand Alliance and work with others to focus your efforts. In this way, if you can rally your team to complete specific Quests, the likelihood that you’ll come out on top is much higher.

But, it doesn’t stop there! Within these dedicated Grand Alliance channels you’ll be able to access more information about your particular alliance’s goals, find out more information and talk to the leader(s) of the various factions, and (and this one is particularly important) gain access to your Alliance-specific Secret. This secret is only known by those within the Alliance, and will give you a significant boost in your ability to choose where to put your resources and efforts.

The Story So Far…

Act One

The great worm makes its way towards the two god-beasts, Nasson and Neolotl, but how is everyone responding…?

Act Two

The news of the approaching worm has set the Argharock Dominion aflame with war, intrigue, and above all else, movement. Now, for the leap.

Act Three

The city has made it’s way onto the worm, and yet, somehow, everything has changed.

Finale

The worm has passed, the dust is settling, and Nassollotyl will never be the same again…

Dramatis Personae

Beliana Fauncrest

Beliana is the current leader of Nassollotyl. Although an aristocrat, she does live in a Realm that is constantly trying to eat you, and has managed to lead her city through a number of recent trials…

Bristlewhakka

Bristlewhakka, a shaman-prophet that worships both Puncha and Sitta has been travelling between the warclans for some time now.

Vorgur Boarfrenzy

Vorgur is a tribal leader for one of the few nomadic, Chaos-worshipping, tribes that call Nasson and Neolotle home.

Drekazra the Unbowed

Drekazra the Unbowed has lived alone for as long as he can remember. After killing his family, and hundreds of others, in what would become known in Nassollotyl as “The Green Furnace” he fled the city…

Vurm-tai Quests

Quests are adventures that you, usually through a Hero, or army can undertake. Most people will play through these within an Age of Sigmar or Warcry game, as part of a Soulbound adventure, or within a Path to Glory campaign.

Throughout the campaign, players were able to participate in various Quests. Those particular Quests were “one-offs”; once the next Act had started, the Quest was “resolved” and cannot be meaningfully undertaken again. Now that the campaign has finished, though, the area is still full of things to do, this is represented by the Quests found below.

Current Quests

The Rebuilding of Nassollotyl

The Rebuilding of Nassollotyl

With the war of the worm at an end, Nassollotyl has begun the slow process of rebuilding. The half of the city on Neolotl has been all but destroyed. Although the enemies of the city have been largely routed, parts of the city still stink of death and destruction…

Inside Lāzawardcháros

The followers of Nagash named the great worm that circles the god-beasts Nasson and Neolotl, “Lāzawardcháros”. Inside this massive creature is a cave network that has gone unmapped, and throughout the system, great gems (a strange kind lapis lazuli), can be found.

Expected Questions

Does it matter which army I play as? Can any army fight for any Alliance?

You can pick any AoS faction to play with, Nasson and Neolotl are big, and Nassollotyl is well developed at this point. You’re welcome to fight for or as an existing faction or society.

In terms of Factions playing for an Alliance that is unusual, the answer is “sort of”. Here are things to keep in mind.

First up, what matters for campaign-mechanics is:

  • What Quest are you trying to interact with when playing your game?
  • Did you have a win, loss, or draw?

Furthermore, players belong to an Alliance which are represented by the standard factions within the standard Grand Alliances. But players can play with whatever models they want, and base that game on the Quest to any degree to provide as much freedom as possible. What matters is what Quest I’m hoping to try help “resolve” and what happened in the game.

As an example, I could belong to the Order Alliance. I want to see that Alliance’s goals met so I want to win a game on behalf of Order within Quest X. But my IRL opponent really wants to play against my Nighthaunt army against their Troggoths. All goods. I play the game but get a loss (damnit, ghosties, get your act together!). So I submit that loss as Order on the Quest by commenting something like “Played a game on behalf of the Alliance of Order, but unfortunately couldn’t beat a pesky heard of Troggoths”. Now, if I had played as a traditional Order army (say my Cities army), I could have put more story into that sentence.

Similarly, if I’m playing as part of the Order Alliance, but want to see the Death Alliance come out with a win on a specific Quest (maybe we’ve done some wheeling and dealing and made a trade in Discord), I could write “an army of Nighthaunt battled against a herd of Troggoths, but unfortunately, the Troggoths had crazy magical weapons they recently found in a crypt and beat my ass to the ground”.

In this way, you have as much freedom to play any army IRL, while still pursuing the Quest you want, but keep the more traditional lore-based friendliness intact. This is the biggest goal; for you to have fun and be free to play what you want, without it being toooo ridiculous like seeing Archaon defending the Cities of Sigmar because he’s just really fond of them today.

Who can play? Can I play Solo, or with TTS?

If you’re reading this, you can almost certainly play! Yes, solo games are fine, and TTS is also fine

How do Quests even work?

Although most Quests are told from a specific point of view, anyone (in any alliance) can submit towards a Quest. You could fight for those mentioned in the Quest, or against it. Basically, if a Quest looks interesting to you, and you’d like to integrate a game or your story with it, then you can do so, no matter what army and/or hero you’re playing.

Does my army, or my opponent's army, have to be the same as in the Quest?

Often, Quests are made with specific factions or Alliances in mind. But you do not need to play as, or against, the “obvious” choice or the faction mentioned in the Quest. That said, if you’re playing something very left-field we recommend telling us a little story in the submission (through the comments section), to explain what’s going on.

Does it matter which army I play against?

Not at all. In fact, your opponent doesn’t even need to be playing in the campaign for it to “count” towards what’s happening. Very similar to how Path to Glory works.

All that matters really is:

  • What Quest are you trying to interact with when playing your game?
  • Did you have a win, loss, or draw?
Battlepacks are a 'thing' now, do I need to use a specific Battlepack?

Not at all. You and your opponent can use any Battlepack that you want to. That being said, given this is a ‘narrative’ event, it’s going to naturally tend to the more ‘fluffy’ side. Nothing is stopping you from using the Pitched Battle or Contest of Generals Battlepacks, but you might find it easier to incorporate the Quest flavour/story with other Battlepacks

I'm super not familiar with playing Narrative games, what should I keep in mind?

We’ve got a section below, check that out!

Can I play as an existing Hero?

Yes! Of course!

How do I 'submit' results?

You’ll “submit” your results on the relevant Quest page. Of course this means we sort of want you to tell us a short little story of what happened, but even a simple “I played as ____ and I won my game” is sufficient.

How many Quests can I submit towards?

You can play as many games as you like per Quest, but you can only “submit” a result (by commenting on the Quest page) once per Quest. Remember, the story is king, so if you’ve played a best-out-of-three or something, tell us about it!

How are results calculated?

We will be tracking wins/losses/draws in the background, but we are much, much, more interested in telling an awesome story than running a competitive campaign. It is best to think of the battles as fighting for your goals, rather than against other players.

What Game Systems are Accepted?

Right now, we’re expecting games to be played in the Warcry or Age of Sigmar Tabletop systems. If you’d like to get involved in Soulbound, reach out to us and we’ll create dedicated Quests just for you.

Is this the only Weave Event?

Nope! There are more on the way!

Never played Narrative Games before, or feel a little anxious about them?

First up, Battlepacks are a ‘thing’ now, so be sure to communicate very clearly with your opponent about what your expectations are, and what Battlepack (if any) you’re using. As this isn’t an in-person event, this is going to be key.

Now that that’s out of the way, here are some very general ideas you could incorporate. If you’ve ever been to a narrative event, these might look familiar to you! These are in no particular order, and they are not campaign rules.

The Rule of Interesting

Use every game as a plot point. Promote your army’s, General’s, and Alliance’s objectives. Affect the story and the rest of the campaign by communicating both to your opponent during a game, and with others outside of the games. Make your army memorable! You’re awesome, and others think you’re awesome, so share stuff!

The Rule of Making Stuff Up

Want your army to do something not covered in the rules? Magic ritual? Dig up trenches? Sacrifice a prisoner? Talk to your opponent (or GM if you have one) and see if it can be arranged. Be flexible when you get similar requests or ideas.

The Rule of Collaboration

What happens between games can be as important as what happens during games. Collaborate: with your team, with the GM or campaign creator, with your rivals! Ask questions, take risks! Make alliances, and backstab people.

The Rule of a Cool Story

Your games are stories. Your goal for each game should be to co-create that story alongside your opponent, keeping your various Quest goals in mind. When in doubt, do what feels cool for your army. In-game Objectives be damned. The winners in Narrative Play are those who get the most laughs or applause from their crazy actions, not those who win the most games. If the player who ‘lost’ the game goes away excited with how it all unfolded, you’ve hit the mark!

The Setting: When Two Creatures Collide

Nassollotyl exists in two parts; tall gleaming spires grace the back of Nasson, while industry and etherwork communities are carved into and within the rock-hard spires that grow atop Neolotl. These two sections work in tandem, and denizens of the two halves often cross over the various sides when Nasson and Neolotl collide.

Your Creations

In order to submit games and have them ‘count’ towards the campaign, you need only comment in the Quest that you’re pursuing. That said, another great way to get involved is to submit your very own creations as well! If you head over to the standard submissions page of the Weave, you’ll be able to submit your very own Heroes, armies, creatures, locations, or even fully-fledged stories that tell of your exploits within the Vurm-tai Campaign. When you do so, they’ll appear both in our Ghur Realm page, as well as on this page for all to see!
